Expansion Hub

Adding a second hub over RS485 and splitting load intelligently.

When four motors are not enough, an Expansion Hub doubles your ports. It connects to the Control Hub over an RS485 cable and needs its own XT30 power from the PDP or a splitter.

  1. Power the Expansion Hub from the main power distribution.
  2. Connect RS485 from Control Hub to Expansion Hub.
  3. Set the Expansion Hub address to 2 in the configuration.
  4. Scan for devices and confirm both hubs appear.

Load splittingLink to this section

  • Keep drivetrain motors on the Control Hub for lowest latency.
  • Put high-current mechanisms on the Expansion Hub.
  • Split I2C sensors across both buses to avoid contention.
